Nurse Melinda Arnold truely wants a baby of her own; however, she has have tried IVF
and surrogacy for Years.
Her egg quality could have been the issue for failed attempts as infertility Doctors
have whispered. Coming to the Gold Coast is what Melinda believes as last chance. At Gold Coast is where she hopes to become first women to have a womb transplant and be the first globally.
The To be performed at Tugun's John Flynn Private Hospital under the management of
gynaecologist Dr Ash Hanafy.
Dr Hanafy and Sweden Dr Mats Brannstrom have been explored
the procedure for over 10 years together. They will perform the world's first
uterus transplant in Sweden early next year. If successful, around 10 Swedish women are in line for probable transplants within the next year and if triumphant, They start accepting others for
possible transplants and additions to the program.
The 34 year old nurse Melinda hopes to be on that program, as she was born without a uterus and tried to become pregnant through IVF and surrogacy. While back in 2003, her mother was allowed to act as surrogate to carry her daughter's baby in what was a Victorian first. Today,
her mother will once again come to her side as Denise will agree to give Melinda her womb.
Just in Austral Dr Hanafy think there could be sereral hundreds of women suffering
from the same condition as Melinda.
"People don't know about this condition because they don't find out until
they're 15 or 16," Dr Brannstrom, who was meeting with his colleague on
the Coast yesterday, said.
Which was once a once controversial topic as with surrogacy, it appears that doctors now being
met with enthusiasm on the idea of womb transplants. Nevertheless, about eight or nine
years again it considered totally and ethically debatable. Today, more people think it less
ethical. Is surrogacy a better choice?
The procedure could kill many women and the chance for infection and rejection
is high, as with any transplant surgery.
Surrogacy is not Legal in Sweden; thus, leaving women to lean
towards this options.
"There is a major demand for this kind of procedure," Dr Brannstrom
said.
While preparing next year's patients for surgery, they will harvest their eggs and from matching
donors appropriately at Surrogate Alternatives in the united states.
"They really have to understand this is an experimental procedure,"
Dr Brannstrom said.
"We can't guarantee we will have a live birth.
"After some time we'll attempt pregnancy -- that's the goal, to get a
baby."
"I said (to my boss) what do you think about the first uterus transplant
here in Australia taking place at John Flynn and his jaw just dropped."
While the full surgical procedure is expected to take only a few hours, both women can return home in a only few days: Amazing
